Exploring Xiamen’s Hidden Gem

Xiamen is just a breezy four-hour ride on the high-speed rail from Shenzhen, and it was the perfect spot for my laid-back adventure. The pedestrian shopping streets were lined with charming colonial buildings, and the mix of traditional food stalls and cozy coffee shops made for an enjoyable stroll. After arriving at Xiamen Ferry Terminal, I hopped on a ferry to Gulangyu Island—a quick 25-minute ride. Despite it being a weekday, the ferry was buzzing with people, and although the sun was shining, the strong sea breeze kept things refreshingly cool.

Once I reached Gulangyu, I took an electric car for a quick tour before diving into my exploration on foot. I loved the tranquility of the island, with its winding lanes and unique buildings, each with its own character. Eventually, I found myself near Xiamen University, where the blend of old and new architecture was truly captivating. Just a short stroll away, I discovered a cozy cat café that added a delightful touch to my visit. The café was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy some feline company, making it a memorable part of my day on the island!
