Mae Hong Son

Mountains, Monasteries, and Memories.

Mae Hong Son, a remote mountainous province in northern Thailand, has long captivated my heart with its untouched beauty and rich cultural tapestry. Nestled near the border of Myanmar, this area is home to diverse hill tribes like the Shan and Hmong, each adding their unique flavor to the landscape. The capital city, also named Mae Hong Son, serves as a gateway to the stunning hills, dominated by the serene presence of Wat Phrathat Doi Kongmu, a Burmese-style monastery adorned with ornate white chedis. My early morning adventures began with a chilly sunrise shoot, where the golden light painted the mountains in breathtaking hues.

After soaking in the tranquil beauty of the sunrise, I made my way to Mae Sa village, a quaint border town that feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of city life. I also visited a charming Chinese village, where vibrant traditions and delicious cuisine added another layer to my experience. The crisp air and rural charm provide the perfect backdrop for capturing the essence of this hidden gem. Each corner of Mae Hong Son tells a story, from the vibrant culture of its hill tribes and Chinese settlers to the stunning natural landscapes that surround them. It’s a dream destination for any travel photographer seeking to reveal the heart of northern Thailand.
