Gion
Framing Kyoto’s Cultural Canvas
Traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto on the shinkansen was an experience in itself—smooth, fast, and with views that made me feel like I was gliding through a painting. As I settled into my seat, excitement bubbled up at the thought of capturing the magic of Gion, Kyoto's historic geisha district. With my trusty Nikon D800 slung over my shoulder, I was ready to immerse myself in the vibrant streets, where every corner seemed to whisper stories of the past. Shooting in manual mode always brings me a sense of peace; it’s just me and the camera, working together to freeze moments in time.
Once I arrived in Gion, the atmosphere enveloped me like a warm embrace. The wooden machiya houses and lantern-lit streets beckoned me to explore, each scene more enchanting than the last. I wandered through the narrow lanes, snapping photos of traditional tea houses and glimpses of people in full-kimono dress. The light was perfect, casting a soft glow that made everything feel dreamy. In this serene world, I could lose myself for hours, capturing not just images, but the very essence of Kyoto.
