Longji Rice Terraces
Longji's Lush Layers.
Traveling to the Longji Rice Terraces feels like stepping into a living postcard. Each time I've visited—three times and counting—I've been greeted by a landscape that reminds me of our own Banaue Rice Terraces, but with an enchanting twist. The beauty here is almost fantastical, with layers of vibrant green fields cascading down the mountainsides. Just a two-hour ride from Yangshuo, it's easy to make a day trip out of it, but I chose to stay in Longji during my last visit. This allowed me to indulge in my passion for astrophotography, taking advantage of the crystal-clear skies and lack of light pollution. The food is a delightful treat, and the warmth of the locals makes you feel right at home.
The best time to experience Longji is during the planting season, when the rice paddies are lush and alive. Wandering through the magnificent terraced fields offers not just scenic views but also a glimpse into the rich culture of the Yao and Zhuang people, who have been cultivating this land for over 800 years. Everywhere you turn, there's something worth capturing with your camera—from the stunning terraces to the quaint villages. We even visited a local tea company and enjoyed a vibrant Yao performance, all while soaking in the breathtaking surroundings. Longji is a feast for the senses, and I can't wait to share more about my adventures there.
